A Global Education for

a Changing World

The IB Curriculum combines academic rigor with a global outlook

The IB enables students to direct their own learning pathway and develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive and make a lasting difference. It empowers teachers as the architects of learning excellence, working alongside engaged colleagues in a rewarding career supported by a strong global network.
Experiences through
Project-Based Learning

Project-based learning in the IB curriculum offers numerous benefits for students. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as students engage in real-world challenges. For instance, in a science class, students might design a sustainable garden, applying their knowledge of ecosystems and biology. In a humanities class, they could create a documentary on a social issue, fostering research skills and empathy. This hands-on approach not only enhances understanding but also promotes collaboration and communication among peers.

Project-based learning at Caribbean Global School, an IB World School, includes initiatives like the "Sustainable Island Living" project, where students collaborate to design eco-friendly solutions for local environmental challenges, such as waste management and renewable energy. Another example is the "Cultural Heritage and Identity" project, where students explore and present the diverse cultural influences within the Caribbean, fostering a deeper understanding of their own identity and community. Additionally, the "Global Market Simulation" allows students to engage in international trade scenarios, enhancing their understanding of global economics and intercultural communication. These projects not only align with the International Baccalaureate's emphasis on inquiry and reflection but also prepare students with practical skills and a global mindset.

Primary Years Program (PYP)

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) is an educational framework designed for young learners aged 3 to 12. It focuses on developing the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The PYP emphasizes an inquiry-based approach to learning, encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and engage in problem-solving activities. The curriculum is transdisciplinary, meaning it integrates subject areas such as language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and physical education, fostering a more holistic understanding. The PYP aims to develop students who are knowledgeable, caring, and culturally aware, preparing them to be active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who recognize and appreciate diverse perspectives.

How is the IB
Different?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes aim to do more than other curricula. The programmes develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. The IB gives students distinct advantages by building their critical thinking skills, nurturing their curiosity and their ability to solve complex problems.

The IB strives to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect, alongside a healthy appetite for learning and excellence. Additionally, the programmes incorporate quality practice from national and international research and the IB global community. They encourage students to be internationally-minded, within a complex and hyper-connected world.

Throughout all IB programmes, students develop approaches to learning skills and the attributes of the IB learner profile. The IB learner is positively challenged to think critically and to learn in a flexible environment crossing disciplinary, cultural and national boundaries.

The programmes help IB students:

  • ask challenging questions,

  • think critically learn across disciplines,

  • and develop research skills proven to help them in higher education.

A Focus On
Wellness

Social and Emotional Development

At our school, we firmly believe that Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is essential for the growth and development of our students. That's why every Monday and Friday, our students engage in SEL activities during homero. This dedicated time allows them to build important skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and resilience, fostering a supportive environment for all. We are committed to nurturing not only academic success but also the emotional well-being of every student.

Integrating with the Standards
of Puerto Rico

At Caribbean Global School, we are committed to delivering a well-rounded education by integrating the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework with the standards of the Puerto Rico Department of Education. The IB framework provides a foundation that emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and holistic education. This enables our students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners, ready to tackle global challenges. Concurrently, we ensure that our teaching adheres to the local standards set by the Puerto Rico Department of Education, guaranteeing that students meet regional academic benchmarks and are well-prepared for state assessments and future educational pursuits within Puerto Rico. By blending the IB's global perspective with the local educational requirements, we create a unique curriculum that empowers students to gain a broad, international outlook while mastering necessary competencies for local success. Our educators are skilled in crafting lesson plans that reflect both the inquiry-based, student-centered learning of the IB and the specific content mandates of Puerto Rican standards. This dual approach fosters an educational environment where students develop into globally minded citizens, equipped to thrive in an interconnected world.
